Humble Beginnings
Believing that he could incorporate his vast knowledge of the flooring business into his own small operation, Jim Moran along with Rick Clouthier, opened The Floor Store in Windsor during the worst possible time - the recession that plagued the early '80s. Despite the recession, they followed their own belief system that treating customers well would return to them in the form of success. Despite a recession that was closing many small businesses, The Floor Store flourished. There was no need to look back.
Growth Causes Move
Continuous growth during the early days of operation resulted in the need for a new location to accommodate customer demand for greater selection and inventory. The small 2,400 sq. ft. operation at the corner of Westminister and Tecumseh Road was soon moved to the current location at 6200 Tecumseh Rd. E.. The 10,000 sq. ft. location allowed for much more inventory in the warehouse and more selection on the showroom floor. At a time when others were reducing inventory, The Floor Store was increasing their's.
Minimal inventory in the early years gradually increased to the current stock of 125 rolls of carpet, over 400 carpet remnants, 15 styles of laminate floor, 50,000 sq. ft. of ceramic and 32 patterns of peel and stick tiles
Business Becomes Family-Operated
In 1989, the business experienced another positive change with the addition of Jim's brother Bob as a partner of the business. The Floor Store became a family business with Bob on board. Sharing the same belief with his brother Jim, that every customer be treated with care, the addition of Bob was a perfect fit for the business.
"Our growth over the years is the result of treating each customer who walks through our doors as if they are family," says Jim. "And this has resulted in continued, repeat business and referrals from our satisfied customers!"

Complete Flooring Centre
As a complete flooring centre, The Floor Store Ltd. is one of the largest dealers of in stock flooring in Windsor-Essex County. In addition to a full range of in-stock carpeting, The Floor Store also boasts an extensive inventory of ceramic tile, no wax vinyl and hardwood flooring.
"Customers like to see what they are buying," says sales associate Mike Moran. "Our large buying power allows us to pass on savings to our customers, and they really appreciate that."
